Nagrinėsime du apsakymus: Cynthios Ozick „Šãlis“ ir Grace Paley „Didžiuliai pokyčiai paskutinę minutę“. Abi šios istorijos susijusios su „atminties prikėlimo“ tema, jos kalba apie atminties tradiciją žydų literatūroje, apie tai, kaip su ja elgiamasi, kaip ji priimama ir perduodama. Knygų klubas vyks anglų kalba, tačiau daugelis dalyvių laisvai kalba ir angliškai, ir lietuviškai, todėl galimas vertimas.

English Book Club at Vilnius Jewish Public Library: Memory resurrecting

Mark your calendars for February! Vilnius Jewish Public Library invites you to a two-session short-story book club. Minna Bachman, our intern from New York, will be hosting the book club. The event will start at 6 pm on Mondays (February 12th and 19th).

We will look at two stories: “The Shawl” by Cynthia Ozick, and “Enormous Changes at the Last Minute” by Grace Paley. Together, the stories create the theme of “memory resurrecting”; they speak to the tradition of memory in Jewish literature, and how it is dealt with, processed, and passed on. The book club will be hosted in English, but many participants are fluent in both English and Lithuanian and therefore translation can occur. Any and all are welcome; come, read a short story, and discuss with us!

All stories will be provided via PDF before the meetings. Reading the stories beforehand is encouraged but if you cannot for whatever reason, we will also go over them at the start, summarizing and pointing out important parts.
